Frenulectomy
A minor surgical procedure, in which the frenulum is removed – the fold that connects the lip, the cheeks and the tongue with the gums. It is most frequently performed during fixed treatment on patients who have a diastema between the incisors. If the frenulum extends deeply between the front incisors and this procedure is not performed, the space cannot be closed and the diastema will remain despite the fixed treatment. The procedure is performed by a specialist oral surgeon
