Mobile orthodontic treatment
Specific symptoms that indicate that your child has a problem with an irregular bite and needs orthodontic treatment can be observed from an early age.
Some of the symptoms are:
Misaligned teeth, "whistling" during speech, incorrect pronunciation of certain sounds, sleeping with an open mouth, chewing problems
If you observe these symptoms, we propose you to bring your child to us for an examination, so that we can establish whether a treatment is necessary and in which way it should be
carried out. Mobile braces have a great advantage – they can be removed by the patient. However, it is precisely for this reason that they also require discipline, because they must be worn 10 – 12 hours per day.
We recommend it to children who are in the period of active growth, when the growth potential also acts upon the skeletal development of the jaw, which also directly influences the bite itself.
It is in rare cases that after a mobile treatment no fixed treatment is necessary, however, it greatly reduces the duration of the fixed treatment, if the mobile braces are worn correctly
and in the adequate period of growth and development. We can adapt the appearance of the braces to the patient's character, rendering their time of treatment as joyful and carefree as possible.
It is obligatory to bring your braces with you to every control appointment.
HYRAX
Hyrax is a fixed orthodontic appliance used for expanding the palate and the upper jaw. It is used solely in cases when the width of the upper jaw is underdeveloped. Such patients usually display a pronouncedly narrow palate and a cross-bite, with difficult breathing through the nose, because the palate is the bottom of the nasal cavity. The appliance is fixed upon the first permanent molars and the first premolars by means of rings. The screw is turned every day and a shift can be observed even after a couple of days, because a gap appears between the incisors. After approximately 2 weeks, the screw is blocked and the appliance remains in the mouth for the purpose of retention for the next 4-6 months.
This is followed by fixed treatment. Hyrax has the best effect in the period of mixed dentition – most frequently between the ages of 9 and 12, but we also use it at later ages.
