Frequently asked questions
What is an orthodontist?
An orthodontist is an expert in orthodontics, a branch of dentistry that deals with the improvement of the aesthetics and function of the bite and the smile.
How long do I need to wear fixed braces?
The necessary duration of wearing fixed braces varies from one person to another, depending on their diagnosis, and we assess it after the first appointment.
What is included in the price of fixed braces (brackets)?
The price includes the placement of the braces, all control appointments, the removal of the braces and the creation of a mobile retainer.
How often will I need to visit the orthodontist during treatment?
Control appointments are every 4-8 weeks, depending on the phase of treatment and the type of braces.
Will wearing fixed braces be painful?
A fixed orthodontic appliance requires a certain period of adaptation. It is possible that the patient will feel pressure, and in some cases during a shorter period, also pain. This is quite usual and lasts for 2 – 3 days.
Does age affect the success of the treatment?
The mechanical procedure that is used for shifting the teeth by means of fixed braces is the same at any age. The main difference in the treatment of adults and children is that certain corrections can take somewhat more time in adults because they are no longer in the period of active growth as children are.
Can I choose what kind of braces I will use during orthodontic treatment?
When planning the treatment in consultation with our patients, we try to meet their preferences, but recommendations regarding which orthodontic device is the best for a specific patient are issued by a specialist orthodontist, in our case Dr. Grgurević.
Can braces be worn on only one jaw?
In most cases, braces are placed on both jaws, because that is the only way to adjust the upper jaw with the lower one and stabilize the bite in terms of function.
